T-A-G
Define the Task, specify the Action, clarify the end Goal. TAG is the minimalist prompting framework for fast, precise and directly operational AI requests.
Description
TAG structures your prompts in three blocks: Task (the task to accomplish), Action (the type of processing expected), and Goal (the final objective the response must serve). Its strength is its simplicity: just three points to frame without overwhelming. Ideal for quick operational tasks: writing emails, summaries, rewrites, data extractions. For complex tasks, prefer RISE or SOLVE.
Objectives
- Prioritize work
- Structure AI prompts
How to apply T-A-G
- 1
Define the Task
Formulate the task in one specific and bounded sentence. "Write a follow-up email to a prospect who has been silent for 10 days" rather than "write an email."
- 2
Specify the Action
Specify the type of processing (generate, summarize, list, compare) and format constraints if needed.
- 3
Clarify the Goal
State the end objective: what the output will be used for. This goal serves as a relevance filter for the AI.
